Assistant Professor of Psychological Sciences with Joint Appointment in African and African American Studies

The Department of Psychological Science (PSYC), in collaboration with the African and African American Studies (AAST) Program at the University of Arkansas, invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Psychology with a joint appointment with African and African American Studies to start on 8/11/2025. This is a standard nine-month faculty appointment with a competitive startup package. Although area of research is open, we prefer candidates whose research complements existing research areas in the Department of Psychological Science and in the program of African and African American Studies. We also prefer candidates with demonstrated commitment to institutional belonging efforts and with demonstrated potential to obtain extramural funding. Successful applicants must have: (1) a PhD in psychology or closely related field (e.g., human development) from an accredited institution of higher education conferred by the start of appointment; (2) an active research agenda in any area within psychological science (e.g., clinical, cognitive, developmental, neuroscience, social) that includes applications to the African Diaspora; (3) evidence of scholarly productivity as demonstrated by peer reviewed publications in scientific journals; and (4) an ability to contribute to the PSYC department’s teaching mission in both graduate training and undergraduate instruction, including courses that can be cross-listed with AAST.
